CTs Day Three

The Maths bonus question didn't exactly turn out like what YH said it would be. But it was something along that line, so thanks anyway. My answer for 10 is 3 and my answer for 11 is too long to be listed here, so I won't harp on that.

But damn it, I think I made a stupid careless error on the way to my bonus question, meaning like 5 marks gone. That's 59/60, hardly enough to get my GPA 4.4. Feeling bloody sad now. Well at least I had two extra hours after Maths to cry and think through my mistakes while the rest had Bio - so.. yay.

In any case, I had the rare opportunity to give ZL a zero for attendance. Woot! The first guy to pon CTs! Not bad at all.. I thought no one would be brave enough. In any case that wasn't the point - the point is he missed two easy papers, for I heard Bio was damn easy as well. Two free GPA 4s flown away. Aiya!

Speaking of which, I had an email being sent to me. Now I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you that any mail regarding advice should be sent to talkcocksummit@yahoo.com.sg, not my personal email! I don't appreciate running this service on a personal level. So don't try to be sneaky and send to my email okay!

Anyway here's the email:

Dear TCS,

I am very worried about my GPA and I panic before the tests, during the tests, and after the tests. Sometimes it has affected my performance during the common test so much (like for SS). My hands start shaking, thus affecting my ability to write. I am very afraid of failing and not doing well, and after exams I can't help but keep discussing the questions and counting my marks to see if I could get my GPA 4. Could you please advise me on this? (I even discussed the English essay)!

KNN

Well if you'd like some good advice don't end off your email with an insult. Even if it's your name then at least put your full name, not your initials.

In any case, there are two possibilities here.

1) You have anxiety problems, so you should see a doctor.
2) You're a bloody mugger and deserve this.

1) is pretty self-explanatory. So is 2), but let me tell you all about CTs. You don't have to worry before them because before the tests is when you have the highest chance of getting your GPA 4. I always feel happy before the tests because I know that's when I have the highest chance of scoring damn well. Of course the situation changes when you do your first question, but like I always say, it's a matter of perspective. 船到桥头自然直。So don't worry so much about things.

During the CTs, you don't have to panic because you know you're suffering now, but will have fun after the CTs. When I do MY CTs, I always think of what am I going to do after the CTs so as to relieve the stress. As a result, I don't panic and as a result, I answer my questions calmly! The only downside is that sometimes you don't know what you're writing, but better than not being able to express what you write.

After CTs just go play your Pokémon. No one discusses answers, though of course that is very rampant. I usually don't like to discuss them, but people like to rely on my expertise and confirm their answers with me. I don't really mind most of the time, but after a while it gets irritating. So I suggest you bring your Gameboy to school next time and the moment CTs finish just start being occupied with it. That might take your mind off the CTs and reduce your panic.

And that's my advice to you. KNN.

I think I came up with a new school song anyway:

When Raffles held the bunsen burner
That cast luminous flame
We faced the challenge of the day
Find the structure of propane

The iodine I- and acid strength
Their pH is so damn small
You couldn't find a stronger chemical
In the whole of Singapore

Come heed the call Rafflesians all
Increase speed of reaction by stirring
We'll do our best for the Chem test
And keep our GPA surviving

Let Chem remedial and fervent hope
With one voice make us pray
Auspicium Chemistry Aevi
Let me pass Chem today

Sang it on Monday. Hope gets you further during the CTs.

Heard RJC school song might be same as us. Good - then I can use it again for next year. Afraid I haven't made a Physics version for the school song though, partly because I haven't revised. I told D Tan I hated Physics today, which wasn't true because actually I've an intense love for Physics - only not as intense as Maths or Chem. Maybe because I'm a dc motor that cannot be turned on easily. Maybe I'm just unmagnetised, I don't know.

BUT I DO KNOW SOMETHING! FLEMING'S RIGHT HAND RULE!

I chanced upon Fleming's Right Hand Rule on the net. Fleming's a bloody yandao, I tell you. Anyway I thought Fleming was a biologist, considering he discovered penicillin. And Biology and Physics don't go together. But then again it just proves how everything is interlinked, so you can't afford to slip up on any subject, like those slip rings in ac generator.

Well without further ado, I think I'd show you Fleming's RHR.

This is how I study for Physics.

Nevertheless, today is the last day of my ten-day NO MSN CAMPAIGN! Woots so by tomorrow I'll be back online. I plan to be back to no-life after CTs and thus the first thing we'd do after Literature would be to PLAY WATERPOLO! Then have some fun jamming in school before going back online at home. This is what I call life, man. But for now just sit and sulk as I mug Physics.

Oh some helpful advice for those taking Lit. I don't think I've covered the syllabus for Lit yet, as only around 10% of the batch population takes Lit. Now that's quite sad - but I've tips for you anyway.

1) Write a lot so you can't fail.

2) Watch out for poetry devices because that's gonna come out.

3) Read the book.

Simple as that. But 百闻不如一见,so I'm going to give you an example question.

Name the tragic elements in Little Ironies. [25]
Can't trick me. Although the main element in Little Ironies is obviously iron, or Fe - the most tragic elements that appear is obviously K and Na. As the most reactive metals in the Reactivity Series, they tend to be inquisitive and interfere with everything. (Now if you're thinking of a certain person here, please stop it. I am not making any references to anyone.) Being inquisitive and busybody will only get you into trouble - as we can prove with certain unnamed examples, and thus having a tragic end. Therefore, as reactivity causes inquisitiveness and inquisitiveness causes trouble, which in turn causes tragic fates, I must thus conclude that K and Na are the tragic elements in Little Ironies.

And the fact that Fe is not tragic is an irony itself, hence explaining the title.

That will earn you 25 marks, if not 25+ marks. I heard teachers give BONUS marks to those with very good Lit scripts, and I'm aiming to be one of them tomorrow.

Just you wait and see! Meanwhile enjoy your mugging today, because you might not be able to do so afterwards. Quite sad, but oh well, life has its ups and downs.

(Life is a sine graph.)
