CTs Day One

Today's CTs were bloody simple - and the time passed very quickly.

I only took around ten minutes for the English paper and like five for the SS paper. OMG! That's not even 20% of the total time. To be precise, that's only 12.5% of two hours that I used. Sometimes I think even one hour for each paper is too much.

My answers were precise and straight to the point.

English
I spent eight minutes eliminating topics - for those crazy people at English Dept decided to give us seven topics. Finally it was between topic 2) a great leader is created by circumstance or 7) if you feel like doing it, do it. In the end, I chose Question 7. They said "comment on this way of life" and so I did.

My essay:
I chose this question because I felt like doing it, but soon after I did, which is now, I don't feel like doing it anymore. I feel like talking about CTs. Thus I think I will - and CTs are really pointless especially if you mark across the board - because that would do nothing but dirty the board! Ahahaha! Okay that was lame and I feel like sleeping now. To conclude, I find this way of life bloody good because it's stress-free. Yea pretty much.

My CA for English (102.1%) should be enough to pull me through anyway.

Social Studies
Not much harder. I spent one minute for Question 1-3 and two minutes for Question 4.

Question 1: What is remaking Singapore and why is there a need for it? [3]

I'll be frank with you - remaking Singapore is making Singapore again. And there actually isn't any need for it but our government is kiasu and so they would like to remake Singapore even though in reality it's good enough. It's like relearning a Chemistry topic so one can get a better grasp of the concept. Well, the case is similar here.

Question 2: What is PM Lee trying to say when he says "So, we are aiming for a mountain range, not a pinnacle. We want many routes up, many ways to succeed" in his National Day Rally speech? [4]
PS The source even had a funny picture of PM Lee doing the teh tarik action!

Good question. Singapore, in essence, is like a rock wall. To be the best in Asia, there are many ways. You can either take the easier way through holding the hand-grips, or take the harder way and get your hands bleeding. In having a mountain range, there is a higher chance that the climber will take an easier route, and thus escape unscathed. A pinnacle might mean only one way up and thus the climber would have plenty of trouble scaling it. Put simply, PM Lee thinks Singapore should be a great big rock wall and not just one single column - it can't be like the silly rock wall at RI Gym.

Question 3: Name TWO important education policies that is ESSENTIAL in the remaking of Singapore. [8]

You're tricky, Mr. Examiner. For two policies, you'd only give me four marks. So I'm giving you four because I want my full eight marks.

Firstly, differentiation. In knowing what is dy/dx, we can now find out the gradient of Singaporean hills and the rate of the construction that is going on all over the bloody island. Then we'll know when it will ever end.

Secondly, applications of differentiation. We must know how fast the Merlion takes to fill up Singapore River, which is an important part of Singapore. Also we must find the roots of the Esplanade where dp/dE = 0, where p = no. of people in the E = Esplanade.

Thirdly, integration. How we can actually integrate ourselves into society. In remaking Singapore, we must first be united. Thus integration is essential.

Fourthly, applications of integration. Now more and more people are drink-driving and overshooting the speed limit by a hell lot. Finding the acceleration as well as the velocity of the cars will allow us to clamp down on errant drivers, thus yet again remaking Singapore into a more law-abiding society.

Hell, I'm good.

Question 4: From the source as well as your own knowledge, evaluate the success of the government in building a civil society.

(This took me damn long to ponder because I had nothing to work with)

Let t = time and s = civil society.

Singapore was founded in 1819. PAP won in 1959. Became independent in 1965.
Current year = 2005. Effective ruling is when Singapore became independent.
Time used by PAP = 2005 - 1965 = 40

Words in source = 357
Words that shows effectiveness in building civil society = 285

Effective Effectiveness = Effectiveness/total x 100%
= 285/357 x 100% = 79.83%

Effectiveness per year = 79.83% / 40 years = 1.996%
= 2.00% (3 sf)

The government is moving towards a civil society at the rate of 2% a year, but dt/dS might not be moving at a constant rate.

By then, I got so tired I just fell asleep. Don't forget I thought it was SS test so I didn't bring calculator for the test. Hahaha I hope they kind enough let me pass la.

After all, I did try my best didn't I?

I always give my best for the tests.
